health insurance system in Tunisia has been improving since 2004.
A uniform financing system is based on 6.7% of the income, from which
4% are paid by the employer. These comparatively modest costs pay
for basic coverage and allow for an insurance that also includes
those that are unemployed. Unfortunately, this health system doesn't
really resemble the European one, especially in rural areas it can
sometimes lead to technical and/or hygienic problems. In some cases
it is difficult to find physicians that are educated in Europe and
speak English or French. The quickly growing private sector, private
practices, shared clinics and laboratories are not really bound by
any set fee schedule and therefore mostly interesting for those with
a higher income. We definitely recommend our clients to have a good
health insurance in order to receive the best possible treatment!
