Leben in Brasilien mit europäischer KVWhen it comes to health care, Brazil is a country of contrasts. In theory, everybody has access to services financed by government. But in reality the public health care system is in a desolate condition. Those who can afford it opt for private health care. Despite efforts to improve the public health care system, all hospitals are frequently poorly equipped. Long waiting lists for surgeries and other services are the norm. Also, most physicians in public hospitals do not speak English, which is definitely a problem for patients who are ill and need to explain where it hurts. Those who can afford it get private treatment. About 75% of Brazilian hospitals are privately owned. Unlike common hospitals, they have excellent equipment, personnel and flexibility, especially in big cities like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Those who can afford it should definitely choose a private health insurance.

As a foreigner you should think about the best health insurance for you before starting the journey. We also gladly assist those who are not happy with their current health insurance system.
