Biography
Nikolaus Helbich was born in Vienna, Austria, and is a German citizen. His father was a lawyer and his mother a writer, and he is their second son. During his childhood, he spent a lot of time in England and France in order to learn the languages and cultures of these countries.
After his Abitur [university-entrance diploma], he studied French and History. Immediately after finishing his studies, he taught both French and History at a Bundesgymnasium in Vienna for two years. He later received a PhD in History.
Together with his wife and associate Adelheid – who is from Northern Germany – they started their own business as corporate consultants in 1987. Shortly thereafter they founded the Helbich GmbH specializing in consulting clients on health insurance, financial security, real estate, and financing. Since then, their client base has grown steadily and become more and more global. This is why Dr. Helbich started traveling to New York for business more often.
In 1994, his dream of living in New York came true, and he was able to combine his private life with his work. In New York he and his associate Adelheid Helbich founded the German Health Plans Worldwide, Inc. and specialised in consulting German and international clients in health insurance matters.
In his spare time, Nikolaus Helbich enjoys singing classical songs (Schubert Lieder and Italian songs). In 1997, he became a member of the Oratorio Society in New York. On occasion he also sings with the German Choir of the German School in White Plains and with the German St. Paul Church in Manhattan.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of the German American Roundtable in New York and a former board member of the Deutscher Verein in New York, a member of the Chamber of Commerce in New York, Philadelphia and Naples as well as member of the American Council on Germany and the Rotary Club New York.
