Company History

In 1987, Adelheid Helbich (actuary, BWV) and Dr. Nikolaus Helbich started their own business in the area of insurance & finances.

In 1990, they founded Helbich GmbH in Hamburg. Many inquiries from internationally-oriented individuals led to a steady increase in clientele.

First contacts to various chambers of commerce were established during that time. In addition to other areas, Adelheid and Dr. Nikolaus Helbich have focused more and more on one particular niche: health insurance consulting services for German citizens residing in other parts of the world.

In 1990, they expanded their health insurance services by conducting seminars about health insurance as well as business and group dynamics workshops.

Since 1995 they have spent more time in the US, and in 2001 they founded German Health Plans Worldwide Inc. in New York. In 2009 the main office was moved to Cape May, NJ.

The decision to open an office in the US was based on the fact that international clients can be reached more easily from there and personal interactions with various companies and individuals can be fostered more efficiently. It is an important factor for German Health Plans Worldwide Inc. to ensure good customer care.

Our services include insurance and customer care for trainees, interns, and students residing outside of Germany temporarily with a non-immigrant visa (like J1 for the US).

Through our close relationship with various German American Chambers of Commerce (especially in New York), German Health Plans Worldwide Inc. provides consulting services regarding health insurance for medium-sized and large companies.
